Membership

Candidates for Membership into Highlawn Baptist Church may present themselves through one of the following:

  • Baptism - for those making a first time decision to receive Christ, who are in agreement with our Statement of Faith and Covenant, may be received for church membership following baptism.
  • Letter - Persons requesting letters of dismissal from the fellowship of another Baptist church may be received pending receipt of such letter. Prospective members must have been baptized as believers by immersion.
  • Christian Experience - Persons who, for justifiable reasons, are unable to produce letters of dismissal from their former church may be received into membership. These prospective members must give a statement of their Christian experience and the renewal of their covenant, give evidence of conversion, and have been baptized as believers by immersion.
  • Student Membership - Membership is offered to students who are attending school in the area. This membership does not affect their relationship to their home church and is terminated when they complete their education and leave the Huntington area. Student members are nonvoting members.
  • Proxy - Any individual who qualifies for membership by Baptism, Letter, Christian Experience, or as a Student, but for justifiable reasons is unable to present themselves to the church in person, may do so by proxy and must be by the consent of the Deacon Team and the Senior Pastor. Any member of the Deacon Team may serve as proxy.

Candidates for membership must attend the Membership Class to learn and understand the privileges and responsibilities of members to God and this church.  DVDs and booklet are available in the library.
